Yeah i think you make a very good point DH, i just feel that a number of athlete's in the BDD over the years could have done what Breeding done but the only question is would they. I used to be very hard on the guy and still am at times but do not let that be looked at as i did not respect what he did for his team to help them win, you have to have a kid like him and he knowhe would not be a star but he was probably their most valueable player.

Hey DH you do not have to play basketball to know it man so there is not a bit of shame in posting about something you have never played in High School you got more of a grasp of it than most that did play does i think. I also would have to say that it is a tough thing to make a all time team in basketball for the BDD because of all the great players that have came along so good job on a almost impossible task.

You guys are probably right and most likely know alot more about basketball than I do. I never played the game but enjoy watching and made my list from a combination of what I have saw myself and what I have heard. Keep in mind I mentioned in my post that my team would be made up of the guys who I would pick to be on my "TEAM" and would be the best over all team that could be assembled. Air-Ran made my point perfectly when he mentioned Breeding not be worth mentioning on an "individual" basis. Last time I checked basketball was not an "individual" sport. I think that is the problem when they name alot of these "all star" teams. They base their choices on their perception of individual talent and the team aspect gets left out most of the time. So called "role players" like Rambis, Rodman and Oakley get left off the team but could you really win without guys like that? Whats the purpose of an "all star" team if everyone's role is to score and nobody does anything else? Why even put an all star team together if they are going to suck? After all isn't every team made up of a collection of "role" players? Your role may be to score 30 pts per game, it may be to handle the ball and pass, it may be to set picks hustle and rebound. I think its hard to value one over the other and to say that any joe schmoe with no talent could come in there and hustle, rebound, and play physical is really narrow minded in my view. Hey lets just get the trumpet player in the band to be our new power forward.

I think the latest installment of Team USA('04 Olympics) shows us what happens to a so called "all star" team when put to the test against "seemingly" less talented but "real" teams comprised of players who collectively fill more than one or two roles. A collection of gifted scorers doesn't make up an all star team in my mind. But hey thats just me. I also think Team USA will look a little different in '08.

Yeah James I actually forgot about Brett Compton but I have never heard of John Minton? I went alot on what I have heard, I put several on my team that I had never actually seen play like Doug Fuller, Grabern Barton and Mark Robinson.

You left out two starters
1.Duffy Gilmore - only played 1-2 yrs in BDD but hands down most basketball talent, I say again "basketball talent" SWVA has ever seen

2.Brett Compton - Haysi - led his teams to 2-3 BDD titles, I think he is the only player in district history to make all BDD all 4 yrs and lead his team in scoring for 4 years, could handle, pass and rebound, had over 1700 points, close to 1000 rebounds

Jason Compton lead the BBD in scoring for 4 years and was All BDD for 4 years so was Mike Ratliff and the list could go on. Dont get me wrong Brett was a good one but no way a starter in the the BDD all time. I think your numbers are off on the 1700 pts and 1000 rebounds too,and yeah Duffy was a really great offensive player but not in the BDD and i do not feel the greatest in SWVA, all around anyways, now if you wanted to list the top players with some head issues that could have had it all but blew it out their ass, then Duffy would be tops. Kid had something special but was too immature or just plain stupid to know it and that is not me just being harsh that is me bieng real, and i know and played with the guy. Steve Ball Honaker..............Nah.

Brett had up around 1700 pts so I am pretty sure that is accurate but i don't think he was near 1000 rebounds...may have had about 700(my guess). Had a really good career but is not the only player ever to make all BDD 4 years(i know because i did)...not sure if he led his team in scoring all 4 years either...got to figure Heath Sutherland may have at least one of those years but I'm not sure. But I agree he would be on my all time team.

Just laughable to mention Duffy with any seriousness if you are talking about BDD...if someone mentioned him on the Cumberland forum I would say ok but not BDD. He played 2 years in the BDD and never averaged more than 12 pts per game, never named all district...so how can he even be considered to be on the bench? As for his Cumberland career yes he was all world as far as scoring(also shot more than doc holiday) but never even led his team past the 1st ROUND of the regional tournament! And this is the best player in SWVA history??? PLEAZZZ!!! They rarely even beat little Jason Bishop and Rye Cove in their own district, much less Twin Springs!

I know who Breeding is but i do not feel he was worthy of the list because he played on a one man team and that is it, if you feel so pour it on it man, Wampler was a great leaper but that was it also, i dont know Ball that is what i ment. Estep might have been a good ball player i dont know played him once and he showed me jack as did PJ, i played all these guys out of school mainly and they were not what i thiought they were when they played a team of equal talent, or that was thought to be of equal, where as they ended up not being as good as i thought they were. There is a guy from Honaker that was a really good shooter Mike Hall i think DJ Hall's Dad and his mom was a good basketballer too........LRB seems you remeber more of the newer guys instead of the older ones but like i said to each his own, make a list man.
